What drives the price, in plain English
Distance is charged by the foot
A garage on the other side of the house is not a small change. Trenching to a detached garage more than doubles the per-foot cost on top of the extra length.
Panel work dominates when needed

Hardwired or plug-in on a 14-50 receptacle?
Hardwiring is required above 48 A and is generally the more robust choice — no receptacle to overheat, and it permits the full continuous rating. A NEMA 14-50 receptacle install is convenient and portable between homes, but the receptacle becomes a wear point and cheap ones are a known failure mode. Either way 625.41 treats EVSE as a continuous load, so the circuit is sized at 125%.
