SEER Savings Formula

Annual kWh = (BTU/hr × cooling hours) ÷ (SEER × 1,000)

Payback years = price premium ÷ annual savings

SEER sits in the denominator — higher SEER means fewer kilowatt-hours for the same cooling output.

Divide BTU/hr × cooling hours by (SEER × 1,000) to get annual kWh, then multiply by your rate. Subtract the higher-SEER cost from the lower-SEER cost for annual savings.
